Sharia's Supervisory Board

We’re honored to have three of the world’s most prominent Shari’a scholars on our independent Shari’a board. They are highly regarded authorities in law, economics, finance and Shari’a law.

We entrust our Shari’a board with the responsibility of making sure that all of our products and services are in full accordance with the relevant Fatwas and applicable Islamic principles.

DR. ABDULBARI MASHAL

CHAIRMAN, Dr. Abdulbari Mashal is the Chairman of Raqaba Group, he holds a PhD degree in Islamic economics, from Al-Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud University in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia. Dr Mashal is Head and member of many Shari’a Supervisory Boards for Islamic banks and financial institutions and also he is a researcher and author of more than 40 specialized academic studies on Islamic financial institutions and Shari’a supervision.

In addition to that he has more than 20 years of experience in the field of Shari’a audit and Islamic financial consultation with focus on MENA region, Turkey, U.K and U.S.A. markets. Dr Mashal is an expert and member in a number of international professional bodies :

  • Expert in the International Islamic Fiqh Academy – Jeddah.
  • A permanent expert in the Shari’a Board for Supervision and Rating.
  • Member of the Islamic International Foundation for Economics and Finance, Riyadh.
  • Arbitrator at the International Islamic Center for Reconciliation and Arbitration (IICRA), Dubai.
  • A corporate governance expert in the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and International Finance Corporation (IFC).
  • A member of the Shari’a Board – Auditing and Accounting Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), 2007 – 2010.

PROFESSOR MOHAMED SALIM BADAMANA

MEMBER, Professor Badamana is a well-known Islamic Scholar serving as a Chairman of Forage Utilization Department, University of Nairobi. In addition to being a member of Sharia Supervision Board East Africa, Prof. Badamana is Chairman of Sharia Advisory Board of Gulf African Bank Kenya. He is the author of many papers & articles on Islam and has attended International Islamic conferences held in Jordan, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya and Saudi Arabia.

Badamana is also the Islamic visiting Professor for Quranic Arabic, Islamic Laws in many Public Universities, conferences, seminars, Mosques in Kenya. Moreover, he broadcasts different Islamic and question/answer program on Kenya Broadcasting Station. Prof.Badamana holds PhDs in Islamic Philosophy from Sudan and Forage Utilization from UK. He is also a certified Sharia Advisor and Auditor (CSAA) from Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), Bahrain.

DR. ABDULQANI HUSSEIN MOHAMED

MEMBER, Sheikh Abdulqani Hussein is a PHD holder in Islamic Financial Engineering Controls and MBA in Modern Financial Operations (Fiqh – Islamic jurisprudence). He is an expert and qualified trainer, lecturer and consultant in Islamic financial transactions and Fiqh.

Abdulqani has worked as Senior Sharia’a Compliance controller from 2007 to 2010 in the Dahabshiil Money Transfer. He is founder and remained Manager Director of Beder Center for Future Studies and Consultancy during 2008 to 2012. He has been the President of Beder international University for the session 2010-2013. Currently, he is serving as General Manager of Beder Institute for Research and Development (since 2012) and is a Member of Somaliland Higher Education Commission.
